As part of our ‘Toolbox for Success’ series the Department of Pharmacy, Brac University, will host a short course on ‘Deciphering the Genetic Message: Transcriptome Analysis’. This will be the third short course under the ‘Toolbox for Success’ series, and will be held on October 31 and November 7, 2020, at 9 pm. Please note that the short course will be held on Google Meet for the registered participants and seats will be filled up on a rolling basis since a maximum of 300 participants will be able to join the session. About the Instructor:
Ridwan Islam is currently a PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), USA. His project focuses on the identification of potential molecular targets and drug development against the target to manage aggressive therapy resistant prostate cancer patients. In addition to his research, he is a Graduate Student Tutor at the UNMC and is actively involved in teaching graduate students. Mr. Islam, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Pharmacy, Brac University is currently on study leave and has 4 years of experience in teaching and supervising undergraduate pharmacy students.
DNA, the permanent, heritable, genetic information repository, is transcribed into RNA, the carrier of stored information in the genes. Transcriptome analysis is the study of the complete set of RNA produced by the genome. It is used throughout diverse areas of biomedical research, including disease diagnosis, biomarker discovery, risk assessment of new drugs, etc. The short course will cover the basic description of transcriptome analysis, different transcriptomic techniques, RNA sequencing and data analysis.
