Mental Health Service (Face to Face and Online)
Counseling Service:
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is intended to assist a willing client with a wide variety of concerns. Professional Counselor offers clients a safe and nonjudgmental environment to discuss his/her concerns, discover new ways to resolve these concerns, and improve personal, academic, and social functioning. This year, most of the clients are self-referred and some clients are also being referred by faculty members/staff/authorities.
Pair Counseling
Here, the counselor assists the couple/pair to gain insight into each other, learn new and effective ways of communication, and maintain sound interpersonal relationships.
Parent Counseling
The counselor acts as a bridge between parents and children to help them strengthen their relationship with each other and to promote a positive parenting style.
Group Counseling
Group therapy is a powerful tool for growth. On a need basis Counseling Centre also provides group counseling where the counselor acts as a facilitator. The power of group therapy lies in the unique opportunity to receive multiple perspectives, support, encouragement, and feedback from other individuals in a safe and confidential environment. These interpersonal interactions can provide group members an opportunity to deepen their level of self-awareness and to learn how they relate to others.
Workshop and Training:
Workshops and training are designed and facilitated on timely psycho-educational topics, healthy lifestyles, preventive measures, and positive habits on campus to support and enhance the academic, professional, social, and personal goals of students, faculty members, and staff. With this concern, the Counseling and Wellness Centre organizes seminars on “Positive Parenting Skills” regularly. It is an interactive seminar where professional counselors and parents of students discuss challenges faced by parents as well as some tips for positive parenting style.
Seminar and Workshop on Parenting for Student Success and Wellbeing
The Counseling and Wellness Centre organizes a seminar and workshop on “Parenting for Student Success and Wellbeing” in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs, BRAC University to gather information from the parents about the academic progress and personal well-being of their son/daughter during the first year of university life, and to promote and convey the importance of parents’ contributions to student development particularly during their first year at the university.
Seminar to observe World Mental Health Day
One of the biggest challenges facing the Mental Health Movement is the lack of awareness among the community regarding mental health. Therefore, to raise community awareness about services and facilities available for mental health issues and promote the importance of psychological well-being, every year, the Counseling Centre organizes a seminar to observe World Mental Health Day.
Seminar on Awareness of Drug Dependency
Since 2014, each semester, the Counseling and Wellness Centre has been organizing and facilitating a seminar for the students of the residential campus titled “Awareness on Drug Dependency” to make students aware of the devastating impacts of taking drugs.
Anti-Bullying Awareness Campaign Week
Bullying on campus is believed to be very common and it hurts our mental health and well-being. With the powerful message of “Respecting Each Other for Who We Are”, Brac University Counseling Centre in collaboration with other departments organized an anti-bullying awareness campaign week in 2018, at Mohakhali and the residential campus to create awareness and develop strategies to prevent bullying effectively. The main objectives of this Campaign are to provide psychoeducation about the psychology of bullies, bystanders, and victims and the impacts of it, creating empathy and compassion in the community.
Live Sessions from Digital Platforms
Live sessions from digital platforms are another effective medium to reach several people at a time and to create community awareness about mental health issues. Counseling Centre organizes Facebook Live sessions on different psychosocial issues to promote mental health awareness.
